Koel Purie is an Indian actress and daughter of media baron Aroon Purie.

Purie was interested in acting since she was a child though her family had no acting background. In fact, her family was more into business. However, her grandfather V.V. Purie who started the Thompson Press in Faridabad was Raj Kapoor’s films and financed Kapoor’s Aan and Aag. And um, her father is Aroon Purie, the editor-in-chief and owner of the India Today group.

While Purie has an economics degree, she found the lure of tinsel town too hard to resist and decided to become an actress. She wanted to find her own niche without being known as anyone’s daughter. She applied to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), London, and got selected. Though the course helped Koel realize that she definitely wanted to get into acting, she believes that acting school is not necessary and actors are born, not made.

Her long absence after her debut Everybody Says I'm Fine was because she had to go back to RADA to complete her course.

When she finally came back to India nine months ago, she got White Noise. Now, she has decided to stay on for good because she finds countless opportunities here to realize her ambition.

As a rule, Koel does her research before playing a character.

She is open to playing all kinds of roles in all kinds of films. One hopes to see more of this talented actress on the Indian screen.
